I finally made a picture of him

Over the years, I have seen this man roaming the streets of Amman with a number of plastic bags on his back. His red/orange hair, his colorful shirt and his distinct shoes. I always wanted to make a picture of him. I have also always wondered what his story was. I thought of following him for a bit, but i was just coming back from work and felt a bit tired. I made a couple of frames, and here is one of them. Many of you may have seen him on the streets in full color, so I decided to convert this digital portrait to black and white, and leave nothing to distract your eyes from him.

Like father like son. (Egyptian style)

The walk back home from work the past week has resulted in capturing a number of good frames and moments. I hope to be able to share some of them real soon. Here is one, its been a while since i have shot faces, because i was concentrating on street photography more than anything. This Egyptian worker asked if I can photograph him with his son, so i did. ( you see, im a nice guy)

On thursday I shot my first professional portrait session for the Jordanian music group, Nawazen. It was a very successfull, fun and stressfull at the same time. Another Jordanian artist has also expressed intrest in booking me for a portrait session after Eid.

So stay tuned.

Hanging with the clouds

I love it when clouds start appearing in the skies of Amman. I was walking home from work and I passed by the Abdoun bridge and snuck a quick shot of these workers way up in the sky.
It's been a while since i posted some digital pictures, so here is one.

Pictures from a Friday afternoon in downtown

The streets of downtown amman after the friday prayers are such a treat for capturing interesting moments in the lives of ordinary people. I have been working on my street photography skills recently and what a better training ground than Saqf Al-Seil on a friday.
Here are some pictures from the second roll I shot on friday. I hope I find a couple more good ones on the first roll which I still have to develop.

I spotted him between the crowd and tried my best to capture him carying his bag on his shoulder.

He caught me after taking the picture , and i don't think he was too happy about it.

This is the second picture i take of this homeless man, i spotted him a couple of nights ago. Recently i have been seeing more and more homeless people downtown.

I took this picture hoping to catch the face of the officer on the leftt. He was very rude to a man just a moment before this frame was made, and if he was reported for what he said i doubt he'd be on the street today.

Going backstage.

Last week I was hired to shoot the stills for "Whose Life is it anyways?" a play at the Amman Baccalaureate School. I shot the rehersals and also backstage on the day of the show. It was a fun time, and it brought back memories from my days on that same stage.
This image is one of my favorite captures of the day. I'll hopefully upload some more frames from the play soon.
Next week I have my first professional portrait shoot, for the music group Nawazen. Found a great location and I'm sure its going to be a good one. Fingers crossed.

Downtown before Iftar

Downtown Amman is a treat an hour or two before iftar. People leaving work, buying items and getting ready to go home. The colors, the sounds and the scents you see exeprience are always special.
I decided to load color slide film ( FUJI Velvia 100 F) instead of black and white in my camera and went for a walk.
Here are some frames from the day. These are direct scans from the negatives, i like how the colors have come out, gives it a certain "ammani" feel.
